“Otherwise filmmakers will become the equivalent of the guys who restore old churches and castles in Europe, they are a small circle of experts, not an industry.” IDK if people realize that history is full of moments where the tech advances and “industries become a small circle of experts” That’s the real “circle” of life when tech advances..

If those same “publishing houses CONTINUE building fortunes” with the new tech, who the FK are you to police what the markets wants?

Few / couple years ago, when VFX artists were lamenting about AI replacing them (which is happening currently in feature film vfx pipelines to speed up certain tasks), there was a former animatronic specialist who replied: “hold my beer.” Such was the cycle when tech advanced and VFX became prominent.

Cycle of life when tech advances. pre industrialization era is full of such stories. heck, your comment will serve as an example decades from now when the cycle advances in other disciplines. Too late to pour the soda back in the bottle. and that’s the part of the cycle we’re at. FIND YOUR VOICE!!!

So this podcast episode is not critical of AI? Have you watched it?

Whatsoever.
You guys were saying Ai is inevitable. These past few months have shown the opposite. No one likes Ai. Unless you’re a CEO looking to undercut artists and save money.
I’m begging you guys to stop shilling for Ai. People will remember which side you were on in this fight. I haven’t visited this site in weeks and I was hoping to come back and see more critical analysis on Ai. But you guys continue to to be centrists in this. Listen to the workers in this industry. Not the companies. No one is excited for Ai anymore. It’s all noise.

I don’t have an opinion yet on AI and video, but AI will cost working photographers billions in revenue. AI will radically shrink the remaining market for professional photography. Unless you live in Highlander world (“there can only be one”), AI should have creative craftsmen very worried.

I’ve noticed in pulp literature that there are publishing houses who have built fortunes on virtual novelists who publish twenty books/year. That’s money which is not going to writers who otherwise may be writing pulp for a living and literature in their remaining working hours. That category of writer included Anaïs Nin, Henry Miller, Michael Crichton, E.L. James.

AI will oversaturate that whole category, leaving less on the table for apprentice writers. Physical services is almost all that’s left, it’s not a coincidence that the rise of AI and the rise of OnlyFans arrived at roughly the same time. And AI will even replace OnlyFans work soon.

Video is being overwhelmed more slowly as it’s harder to get over uncanny valley. Based on what has happened with images/photography, there’s very little time left for video. Clear labelling, a general rejection by the public and stigma are all that will save real video beyond artisanal craft. Otherwise filmmakers will become the equivalent of the guys who restore old churches and castles in Europe, they are a small circle of experts, not an industry.

AI seems to bring out you filmmaking Vermins. If you have a specific and unique voice, you wont be replaced by AI. Will the market shrink – yes but your voice wont.

It doesn’t get more AI-critical than Oren Soffer’s take on the matter, and you are STILL complaining 😂!!!
